Red Jasper
Red Jasper is a fine-grained, variety of chalcedony. Iron oxide gives jasper its unique red coloring. Clays or finely distributed particles create unique markings and color. The different markings have led to them being traded under many names. Source: Red jasper occurs in India, Venezuela and the USA. Mythology: The term jasper comes from the orient and meant the same as our present word quartz. In ancient Egypt, amulets were carved from jasper. In the Middle Ages, it was considered to be the stone of warriors. |
